Pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 have weekly French language sessions with their class teacher following the current Programme of Study for Languages in primary schools.

 

The main objective is to stimulate the curiosity and confidence of the pupils, and to develop an appreciation of the benefit of being able to speak another language.

 

Pupils develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through the use of drama, songs, visual stimuli and lively interactive games.

 

The emphasis is on verbal communication, including speaking and listening based tasks. As pupils gain fluency, they are involved in simple literacy- tasks which support the development of their oral work.
